An international conference highlighting the benefits and workings of the increasingly popular block learning and teaching style is being hosted at the University of Suffolk in June.
The third annual conference of the International Block and Intensive Learning and Teaching Association (IBILTA) will be held at the University’s Ipswich campus and will welcome delegates from around the world.
The theme for this year’s conference is “Transforming Education” and delegates will have the chance to engage with leading global practitioners to explore the innovative teaching models associated with block teaching.
The University of Suffolk was the first UK university to fully adopt the block and blend philosophy which is a method of teaching in which subjects are taught in focussed, sequential blocks with innovative in-built assessment.
The first keynote speaker for this year’s conference has been announced as Associate Professor John Weldon.
An educator, researcher and writer specialising in curriculum innovation, digital media and creative writing, he played a key role in designing and implementing Victoria University’s First Year College block model of teaching.
Rob Ellis, Associate Professor and Interim Director of Learning and Teaching at the University of Suffolk said: “We are extremely proud here at the University of Suffolk to be hosting the third international conference as part of the International Block and Intensive Learning and Teaching Association.
“The global community of scholars focussed on researching, implementing, evaluating and evolving block and intensive learning teaching pedagogies.
“As the UK’s first university to fully adopt this innovative learning and teaching philosophy, we feel that the opportunity for the conference to take place on our fantastic waterfront campus is an appropriate recognition of the work that we have done and continue to do to develop this field.
“We look forward to welcoming colleagues from across the world to Ipswich, to take part in this significant three-day event."
